About the Doctor
Dr. Schlehr has medical licensure in New York. He is a member of the American Medical Association and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He recently became one of the first orthopaedic surgeons to receive a subspecialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Inc.
Dr. Schlehr was born and raised in Western New York. He attended Amherst High School where he graduated in the upper 5% of his class. While attending Amherst he was also a three sport athlete, excelling in hockey, baseball, and soccer.

The doctor completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame, graduating Magna Cum Laude. The doctor did his Medical School at Vanderbilt University and continued his education through a research fellowship at Vanderbilt University and a surgical Internship at Chicago Medical Center. He did his Orthopaedic Surgical residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was assistant professor in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Missouri and completed a sports medicine fellowship and clinical instructor at Stanford University.
Dr Schlehr has worked with numerous athletic teams since completing his education. Most notably the doctor has been a consultant for the San Francisco 49’ers Football Team, Assistant Team Physician for the Stanford University Football Team, and the Team Physician for the Buffalo Blizzard Professional Soccer Team. Today, the doctor continues to be extremely active in the sports medicine community. He serves as the Team Physician for both St. Bonaventure University and Niagara University.
The doctor has given numerous presentations on sports medicine both on the local and national level. He has been a featured speaker for the Easter Athletic Trainers Association and presented at professional conferences including the Mid-Central States Orthopaedic Society, National Family Practice Meeting and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. In addition, he has published numerous research articles in the areas of Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury and the use of surgical lasers. He has been in private practice in Western New York since 1994. Today he has offices in both Lockport and Williamsville, New York.
Dr. Schlehr is married to Kimberly S. Schlehr, M.D. Together they have four children: Madeline, Eva, Isabelle, and John.
